Verse privacy policy

Effective 10 October 2026. This policy describes Verse for YouTube Music, version 1.0.0.

What Verse reads

On music.youtube.com, Verse reads the current video ID, song title, artist, album, duration, playback position, playback state, and volume. It uses this information to display lyrics and operate the existing player. Verse does not read your account credentials, access your microphone, or collect activity on unrelated websites.

Lyrics requests

Verse requests lyrics from YouTube Music using the current video ID. If timed lyrics are unavailable, it sends the song title, artist, album, and duration to LRCLIB to find a matching recording. Requests use HTTPS and omit account cookies and credentials. These services receive the request and ordinary connection information, including your IP address, and handle requests under their own policies. Verse operates no separate collection server and includes no analytics or advertising trackers.

Data stored on your device

Verse stores your text size, per-recording timing adjustments, locally imported LRC cues, and a cache of lyrics in Chrome extension storage. Imported lyrics are not uploaded. The cache holds up to 80 entries; successful results are reused for up to seven days and missing results for up to one hour. Expired entries may remain locally until refreshed, evicted, or the extension is removed. Preferences and imported cues remain until replaced or removed with the extension. Chrome storage sync is not used.

Your controls

You can reset a recording's timing in Lyrics settings. Reload online lyrics removes that recording's imported lyrics override. Removing Verse from Chrome removes its extension storage. You can disable the extension or change its site access in Chrome's extension settings.

How information is used

Song information is used only to retrieve and display lyrics and provide playback controls. Verse does not sell data, use it for advertising, or transmit imported lyrics. All executable code ships with the extension.

Verse's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data is transferred only as needed to provide the lyrics feature. Verse provides no developer dashboard for reading individual users' song information.

Chrome Web Store disclosures

Website content covers song metadata, lyrics, and playback state. Web history is limited to the current YouTube Music recording and the local lyrics cache described above; Verse does not collect general browsing history. Location is disclosed because lyrics providers receive your IP address through HTTPS requests. Verse does not request GPS access or look up your physical location.
